Russia's Old Wainds is back with its third full-length album of furious, ice-covered black metal. The follow-up to 2005's SCALDING COLDNESS, DEATH NORD KULT futher widens the band's palette of musical mayhem. Bridging the gap between Venom and Darkthrone, Old Wainds' brand of scornful black metal is gritty, blasphemous, and fast. More blackened thrash, actually, than pure black metal, DEATH NORD KULT is extreme metal with a purpose. And though its lyrical content makes the album sound ritualistic, the atmosphere is tempered with brutal riff-play.
