Canadian folk singer-songwriter Ferron, with her elegant songs of the road and the next heartbreak down the line, has oft been cited as an influence on Ani DiFranco and the Indigo Girls. Fittingly, DiFranco and Amy Ray drop by on 2008's BOULDER, Ferron's 12th studio offering. As always, the echoes of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen ("Girl on a Road" recalls the gently insistent cadence of "Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye") resound through her exquisitely etched compositions. BOULDER bears the load of more than three decades of recording, and the album holds all the sweet sorrow one might expect. minimize
