Catastrophic have been around since the turn of the century, but they play complex, menacing death metal with the enthusiasm of bloodthirsty rookies. PATHOLOGY OF MURDER is a gruesome tour of a violent sonic landscape dotted with severed heads and burned bodies. Brian Hobbie and Obituary's Trevor Peres wield their guitars like forest-clearing railguns, and Keith Devito spits black tar all over the microphone. The title track rips along in stabbing waves, and "History is Fiction" hovers like a black helicopter raining down napalm on the album's listeners. If it sounds unpleasant, it is.
