Atlantis: Hymns for Disco (CD - 2006)

This eclectic collection by the Canadian hip-hop artist is a mix of non-gangsta rap, vintage soul, and a touch of religion, all held together with some irresistibly danceable rhythm tracks. K-os's voice is listenable, if conventional, but it's his co-opting of traditional rock and R&B conventions and forms, particularly on the ballad-like "The Rain," the Police-influenced "Born to Run," and the demented '50s rock & roll of "Equalizer," that provides the interest here. Cuts like the reggae-tinged "Mirror in the Sky" have an invigorating freshness, and the opening "Electrik Heat--The Seekwill" successfully harks back to old-school hip-hop. minimize
