Unlike a lot of alternative Christian rock bands, Newsboys have no compunction about sounding slick, dancey, or commercial. Scruffy rocker types will consider this a shortcoming, but the opposite is true: Newsboys' strength is their fearless combination of synth textures and Euro-pop catchiness, with touches of club bounce and guitar-driven rock to keep it tasty. 2006's GO is the culmination of the band's 16 years in the game, with everything from the high-end production to frontman Peter Furler's excellent songwriting making the album a winner. CCM fans will want to snatch it up, but GO should be of interest to anyone interested in well-crafted pop-rock with crossover appeal. minimize
