Reflections (CD - 2006)

Although the Temptations have rarely recorded outside of the legendary Motown label, 2006's REFLECTIONS finds the veteran R&B group on Mercury's New Door imprint. Despite this split with Motown, the ensemble, led by sole original member Otis Williams, still offers up a reworked set of Hitsville classics, giving beloved songs by Holland/Dozier/Holland, Ashford & Simpson, and others a smooth, sparkling contemporary sheen. Highlights of this outing include a funky take on the title track and a gentle version of "I Hear a Symphony," two fine examples of the group's old-meets-new approach. REFLECTIONS, though certainly no CLOUD 9, is a gallant attempt to make vintage R&B/soul more accessible to a younger audience. minimize
