Because CLASSIC MASTERS is a budget reissue line administered by EMI Records, this barebones 12-track anthology only covers Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot's five 1960s albums for United Artists. As a result, none of Lightfoot's biggest hits ("If You Could Read My Mind," "Sundown," "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald") are here, because they were recorded after he moved to Reprise Records in 1970. Nonetheless, this is a fine overview of Lightfoot's early folk-oriented material, which is less familiar to fans of his 1970s work. minimize
