Part of RCA's extensive RCA COUNTRY LEGENDS series of reissues, this 16-track compilation does an admirable job of sticking to Dolly Parton's country material, only reaching into her pop years for "Here You Come Again," "Heartbreaker" and "9 To 5." It even features the superior 1974 version of "I Will Always Love You" over the bombastic 1982 remake. Along with the usual suspects (including "Jolene" and "The Bargain Store," but oddly not "Coat of Many Colors"), RCA COUNTRY LEGENDS dusts off a handful of classic early-'70s sides not often anthologized, including "Evening Shade" and the goofy "Daddy's Moonshine Still." While perhaps superfluous for devoted Dolly Parton fans, RCA COUNTRY LEGENDS is a far step above many of the slipshod budget compilations of her material. minimize
