The 2002 Essential Records project City on a Hill: Sing Alleluia serves as the follow-up album to City on a Hill: Songs of Praise and Worship, which was released in 2000. Featuring a stellar lineup of artists, including Third Day's Mac Powell, Jennifer Knapp, FFH, Caedmon's Call, and Jars of Clay, City on a Hill: Sing Alleluia builds upon, and ultimately surpasses, the beauty and craftsmanship of its predecessor. Acoustic praise & worship in style and arrangement, the album reflects careful artistic choices in duets, pairing such voices as Knapp and Powell in the album's first radio single, "Sing Alleluia!" Thematically, the project focuses on the holiness and comfort of God in its songs, including Nichole Nordeman's "Holy Is Your Name" and Jars of Clay's "The Comforter Has Come."
