A NIGHT IN ROCKETOWN stems from a semi-impromptu sold-out 1997 jam session of a menagerie of Contemporary Christian artists, all on Rocketown Records, which took place at the Hard Rock in Orlando, Florida. The presenters were so astonished with the incredible camaraderie on the stage and with the audience's response to the performers that they took the hot DAT tapes and made them available for public consumption. While the performances vary in style and effectiveness, throughout it all, a spirit of love and reverence prevails. Throughout the concert, the entertainers swap places on stage, with everyone from bigger names like Michael W. Smith & Cindy Morgan to lesser-known lights like Wilshire and Ginny Moore taking their turn (and subsequent turns at the plate). In the end, it is blind, relative newcomer Moore who delivers both highpoints on the album, first with her Tori Amos-drenched-in-blues rendition of "I Wanna Be Moved," then with a sweet rambling story, labeled here as "Ginny's Story," which is a refreshingly earnest and modest intro to another pretty song, "If You Want Me To." A NIGHT IN ROCKETOWN is a rousing celebration of Christianity and, even more, of togetherness through a stirring night of music. minimize
