A year after debuting with the Doug E. Fresh/Slick Rick dis record "Showstopper," the Queens duo known as Salt-N-Pepa hit the scene with their first full-length release, HOT, COOL & VICIOUS. The XX chromosome version of Run-D.M.C., Salt and Pepa traded high-energy tag-team rhymes over funky mid-1980s hip-hop production that utilized break records from the Meters, Wilson Pickett, the Pointer Sisters, 7th Wonder, Grover Washington Jr., and Parliament.
