Liner Note Authors: Mykel Board; Gerard Cosloy. Recording information: Noise New York. This is a compilation of live performances from various points in his career. Of course, it's missing a great deal of relevant information and the recording quality is crude. This is probably the best place to be introduced to the demented moron who made obscenity a political statement, as he was still possessed of an intelligible voice on these recordings. He can even carry a tune on the earlier tracks, unthinkable to those familiar only with his later work. His between-song banter with the audience is hilariously stupid. It features guest appearances from Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis and MC5's Wayne Kramer and Dennis Thompson. Most of Allin's earlier recordings are out of print, so if you're a fan, find this. ~ Steve Huey The 1998 re-release of G.G. Allin's most popular release, the compilation Hated in the Nation (originally issued in 1987), contains the same 18 tracks as the original but adds four bonus tracks, and replaces the original cover with a new one. The reissue was timed to coincide with the five-year anniversary of Allin's drug-induced death, and is the ultimate reminder of the menacing punk rock icon and the confrontational performances he became known for. G.G. Allin addicts will want to replace their original copy with the 1998 version since it contains the hard to find track "Out for Blood" (which is from a rare German split single from 1984), among others. If you were to buy one G.G. Allin album, this would be the one to get. ~ Greg Prato minimize
