Chicago-based duranguense outfit Los Horoscopes de Durango stands out from the crowd if only because the group is fronted by sisters Vicky and Marisol Terrazas (there are very few women in the duranguense genre). Fortunately, albums like 2009's PURA PASION testify that the Terrazas sisters are also fine singers: they shine on melancholy ballads and uptempo rancheras alike, the latter providing an excellent platform for their crisp, passionate harmonies. The tight-knit musicianship of the band (which has been playing since the mid-`70s, long before the sisters took the lead) also helps make PURA PASION highly listenable all the way through. minimize
