Though the Vaseline's initial fame in America came courtesy of a ringing endorsement from Kurt Cobain (Nirvana, in fact, covered three songs by the Vaselines), the cult Scottish band has found considerable posthumous staying power. In 2009, Sub Pop released the double-disc ENTER THE VASELINES, a re-mastered updating of THE WAY OF THE VASELINES. In addition to all of the tracks on that release, this new edition also contains live tracks and rare demos. While the Vaseline's sublime sloppiness is endearing and, at times, downright brilliant, it is often best taken in small doses. ENTER THE VASELINES is indeed a big gulp of songs, yet it makes for near perfect one-stop shopping, bringing together everything available by the band in one place and acting as an ideal collection for neophytes and completists alike. minimize
