With FACE CONTROL, their second full-length outing as Handsome Furs, the husband/wife duo of Dan Boeckner (vocals, guitars) and Alexei Perry (electronics, keyboards) present another set informed by minimalist techno. Intentionally evoking the chilly atmosphere of Eastern Europe, the album features plenty of sociopolitical themes, particularly addressing capitalism on the pulsing "Legal Tender" and the dreamy, New Order-like "All We Want, Baby, Is Everything." As with the group's more subdued Sub Pop debut, PLAGUE PARK, the New Wave-minded Handsome Furs are a far cry from Boeckner's indie-rock day job in Wolf Parade, making it much more than just a marital side-project. minimize
