If a musical genre called avant-garde extreme metal existed, then France's Blut Aus Nord (German for "Northern Blood") would be its progenitor. With their seventh full-length release, MEMORIA VETUSTA II: DIALOGUE WITH THE STARS, Blut Aus Nord expands their experimental to the extent that it seems merely incidental that they still fall within the sphere of black metal. But, along with a New Age, post-industrial ambiance, the band still employs highly aggressive metal tactics to express their philosophical mysticism. A sequel of sorts to the band's 1996 sophomore release, MEMORIA VETUSTA II is the next evolution in extreme music. minimize
