The third volume of Tito Puente's COMPLETE 78s series continues to chronicle history in the making. The Mambo King's uptown sound percolates at its most fervid here, and the sound quality is, on most tracks, a great improvement over the second volume. The '50s were a fiery period for mambo, and Puente was at the epicenter of it all, as heard here. Several cuts on this two-disc set feature celebrated vocalist Gilberto Monroig, including "Malcriada," which became one of Puente's signature songs of the period. minimize
