After merging hard rock with Jimmy Buffet-style pop-country on 2006's LIVIN' IT UP, Sammy Hagar mostly returns to his straight-ahead roots on COSMIC UNIVERSAL FASHION. While the title track employs touches of electronica and "23465" hearkens back to 1980s Fishbone-style funk metal, "Psycho Vertigo" and "Peephole" are classic Red Rocker fare, chock full of metallic guitar and Hagar's distinctive wail. Though ultimately not as consistent as 2002's return to form NOT 4 SALE, COSMIC UNIVERSAL FASHION shows that in 2008 Sammy Hagar was in no danger of mellowing with age. minimize
