Audio Mixer: Axel Reinemer. The excellent jazz and dance-influenced electronica sextet Jazzanova moves in a different direction for 2008's OF ALL THE THINGS. An unabashed soul record, OF ALL THE THINGS eschews the group's usual brand of forward-thinking hybrid instrumentals for vocal features, old-school grooves, and soul-jazz flourishes. Singers Paul Randolph, Leon Ware, and Phonte (from the hip-hop outfit Little Brother) guest, but it's Jazzanova's indisputable skill with sampling, layering, and pristine production that makes the music crackle and gleam with excitement. minimize
