Personnel: Luke Metcalf (vocals); Darryl Coppins (guitar); John Kerns (bass guitar); Chris Avalos (drums). Audio Mixer: Brian Nevin. Photographer: Dustin Rabin. Saying you're a new punk band in the early 21st century usually means that you've been weaned on the singsongy punk-pop of Green Day and blink-182, with seemingly just as much attention placed on your fashion dress. So it's good to see a gloriously filthy and raw group like Sound and Fury rear their head amongst all the punk-by-the-numbers acts out there. Sounding like they could have crawled out of CBGB's circa 1977, this Canadian quintet has obviously studied the masters of raw n' roll from the era -- the Dead Boys, the Ramones, and perhaps most of all, Bon Scott-era AC/DC. As evidenced by their 2008 self-titled debut, few new punk bands rock as fiercely and ferociously as Sound and Fury do. Take such tracks as "School's Out" and "18" (both of which are not to be confused with classic Alice Cooper anthems of the same names) and it's easy to picture images of punk kids po-go'ing and spilt beer accompanying Sound and Fury's soundtrack. And Bon Scott and Angus Young would probably be mighty proud to hear their signature musical stamps all over such tracks as "Night of the Ghouls" and "Teenage Rampage." Sound and Fury is a much-needed antidote to what MTV and radio considers punk nowadays. ~ Greg Prato minimize
