THE DETHALBUM is an outgrowth of the hit cartoon series METALOCALYPSE, about over-the-top, fictional black metal act Dethklok. Despite the comedic origins of the project, series creator and Berklee School of Music grad Brendon Small puts a surprising amount of effort and craft into making this sound like actual black metal. Sure, the lyrics to songs such as "Murmaider" and "Briefcase Full of Guts" are ridiculous, but no more than actual Norwegian imports, and there's no joke to the punishing riffs, guttural demon vocals, and twisting guitar leads.
