The Christian rock quintet Sonicflood expands its sonic horizons on RESONATE. The opening track "Lord of the Dance" opens with a flurry of dance beats and vocoder voices that suggest some strange confluence of French electro-duo Air and "Mr. Roboto"-era Styx, but these incongruous elements are soon tethered to Sonicflood's straightforward rock-pop drive. The combination of rich acoustic guitar strumming and hip-hop beats on "Life My Eyes Up" is reminiscent of secular hitmakers Sugar Ray. Despite the electronic adornment, though, it's Sonicflood's harmony laden vocals and driving guitars (not to mention the trademark spiritual lyrics) that power most of RESONATE. Things close out with the anthemic "In Your Hands," whose widescreen folk-rock arrangement frames an appropriately devotional sentiment on which to end this batch of cutting-edge faith-based songs. minimize
