Some Christian rock bands have a spiritual base to their music, but they bury it amid the trappings of contemporary pop to such an extent that the message is lost. Third Day manages to keep its Christian-centered themes at the forefront without sacrificing any of its rock credibility. A good example is the opening "King of Glory," which sings the praises of "the prince of Peace" in no uncertain terms, but whose gently insistent rhythms and jangly guitars would sound perfectly at home on the DAWSON'S CREEK soundtrack. "Your Love Oh Lord" expands the group's earthy, guitar-rock aesthetic by adding some syncopated, programmed-sounding rhythms. "Saved" is a frenetic, piano-driven tune whose collision of gospel and rock suggests a less mannered Black Crowes. Throughout this album, Third Day makes it plain that it intends to stay true to both sides of the duality implied in the term "Christian Rock." minimize
