Legacy/Columbia's I've Got a Crush on You contains 14 classic love ballads Frank Sinatra recorded during his seminal years at Columbia. Although this disc holds no interest for collectors, it's a great choice for casual fans, including listeners only familiar with Capitol and Reprise recordings, since it's a nice, concise collection of stellar performances of wonderful songs such as "Embraceable You," "All the Things You Are," "They Say It's Wonderful," "How Deep Is the Ocean," "Time After Time," "Always," "Fools Rush In," "I've Got a Crush on You" and "Fools Rush In." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Before there was Sinatra the swingin' Chairman Of The Board, there was a young, smooth-voiced crooner who set the American pop scene on its collective ear. Frank Sinatra had just graduated from the big bands he'd apprenticed in and set out on a solo career, and with help from arrangers Axel Stordahl and Percy Faith, first achieved stardom in the 1940s. I'VE GOT A CRUSH ON YOU is a "valentine" of sorts, a collection of the most recognizable and durable American Popular Songs (Berlin, Gershwin, Porter) focusing on love, recorded between 1943-1952. Losing it, finding it, celebrating it - Sinatra makes it all sound so easy. Arranged chronologically, this set begins with the starry-eyed "A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening" and concludes with a sublimely elegant, poignant "Why Try To Change Me Now," which gave hints of the heights Sinatra would scale in the mid-'50s. For those seeking the man's pre-Capitol work, or the Sinatra The Young Crooner, this set (a fine remastering job here) is a top quality sampler. minimize
