It often surprises people when they first realize that Argent's leaders--singer/keyboardist Rod Argent and his non-performing songwriting partner Chris White--had previously led the "lite" '60s pop band the Zombies. With the addition of singer/guitarist Russ Ballard (later a successful songwriter for other artists), drummer Robert Henrit and bassist Jim Rodford (later of the Kinks)--Argent and White formed Argent, a considerably heavier band with a strong hard-rock influence. ANTHOLOGY's closer, a remake of the Zombies classic "Time of the Season," should give sufficient evidence of the differences between the two bands. However, Argent was never only heavy; their signature song, 1972's "Hold Your Head Up," became a '70s radio classic because of both its heavy, thumping beat and its slinky bass and organ lines. The hard/soft dichotomy is also evident in Ballard's "Liar" (later a hit for Three Dog Night), as well as the other five songs on this well-chosen compilation. minimize There are currently no sellers for this product But we can email you when it's available!
