In the fourth of Ann Bannon's celebrated pulp lesbian novels, Beth Ayer is disillusioned with her conventional marriage after turning away from her affair with Laura Landon in college (in ODD GIRL OUT). After contacting a writer of pulp romances in New York, she finds herself traveling to Greenwich village to seek out the old flame of her youth, and to understand her sexual and social desires. Once there she finds Laura in an atypical marriage with a gay man, and also encounters the remarkable "butch" lesbian Beebo Brinker.
