Juan Luis Guerra gained considerable artistic and commercial stature throughout the 1980s, '90s, and 2000s. Guerra and his band 440 have experimented restlessly over the years, blending musical styles from their native Dominican Republic, such as bachata and merengue, with African-influenced sounds, jazz, R&B, salsa, folk, rock, and commercial pop. LA LAVE DE MI CORAZON (2007) is one of Guerra's strongest efforts, bringing together his adventurous leanings with catchy, accessible songs and excellent, lockstep musicianship.
