Sometimes referred to as the Lynyrd Skynyrd of Christian music, Third Day has always added an engaging down-home feel to its brand of energetic arena rock. On OFFERINGS II, the band continues to refine its signature sound, and in the process offers up one of its strongest efforts. The group's best moments come from lead singer Mac Powell, whose voice ostensibly recalls the faceless hordes of growly grunge baritones (Live's Ed Kowalczyk, Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, Creed's Scott Stapp, etc.), but also has an appealing blue-eyed soul element more characteristic of Paul Weller or Robin Trower Band vocalist Jim Dewar. Powell is at his most stirring on OFFERINGS II's live tracks, which are delivered at full force in front of a wildly appreciative audience. This album shows Third Day to be an undeniably tight, hard-hitting, rock & roll band delivering a sound that simultaneously embraces the heavenly and down to earth. minimize
