Recorded between 1955 & 1958. Includes liner notes by Bob Hyde. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Although finally getting their due in the last few years of the 20th century, Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers nonetheless have been the subjects of several best-of packages, even including multi-album and CD box sets on Bear Family and Murray Hill. This 16-track very-best-of comes almost ten years after Rhino's release of an excellent 20-track best-of, and like that single-disc collection, all the big hits are here: "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," "ABC's of Love," "I Want You to Be My Girl," "I Promise to Remember," "I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent," and later sides like "Goody Goody" and his last solo hit, "Little Bitty Pretty One." In fact, this new reissue even appropriates most of Bob Hyde's excellent notes from the 1989 package, track-wise only differing in the absence of later tracks like "Thumb Thumb," "Portable on My Shoulder," "Creation of Love," and the Teenagers' rocking "Love Is a Clown." The perfect entry-level compilation for digging this groundbreaking vocal group. ~ Cub Koda Long before there was a Michael Jackson--in 1956, to be specific--there was Frankie Lymon, a thirteen-year-old dynamo with a soaring voice who led a seminal black vocal group and crafted some of the genre's most enduring early songs. This greatest-hits collection--released in the wake of the sort of bio-pic "Why Do Fools Fall in Love"--has all the groups best songs, as well as "Goody Goody," Frankie's only solo hit.
