Includes liner notes by Jim Pewter, Cary E. Manfield, Robert Y. Kim. Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot, Phil Brown (DigiPrep, Los Angeles, California). Decent 18-track distillation of their 1962-65 work, including several album tracks and non-LP singles. "Wipe Out" is by far the best cut, of course, but the instrumentals, packed with reverbed guitars, honking saxes, and high-end drums aplenty, usually have an admirably sleek power. Two of the vocal surf tunes were co-written by Gary Usher, who also worked with the Beach Boys during this time. ~ Richie Unterberger "Wipe Out" is, of course, the 1963 surf instrumental featuring the drum break that leaves its indelible mark in the memory of anyone hearing it for the first time. Nothing subsequently recorded by The Surfaris was as epochal, but these musicians were a versatile bunch who had a surprising knack for group vocals. WIPE OUT is a nicely programmed best-of that covers all of the group's memorable tracks up through their 1965 conversion into a folk-rock unit. minimize Track ListingAlbum Information
