This 20-track overview of the great Bo Diddley is essentially a repackaging of the CHESS 50TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION. Interested fans can really take their pick, as the identical tracklists present the legendary Ellas McDaniels in all his primordial rock-&-roll glory. It's all here and it's everywhere: that divine Bo Diddley beat, the absurd asides to his maraca sideman Jerome Green, and of course the self-mythologizing. With tracks as timeless and raw as "Bo Diddley," "Who Do You Love," and "I'm A Man," it's no wonder Diddley's nickname is "The Originator." Of course, that soubriquet is a bit misleading: whatever it was that Ellas originated, no one who followed in his wake has been able to duplicate it. Better yet, call him "The One And the Only."
